moverANDAshaker TitleProfile

Summary

This was a portfolio site, built using many unconventional techniques. It was meant as an example for students on how to use different branches of web design together (everything from flash to php). It was also meant to show more advanced positioning techniques. As such it is an interesting site with many different dynamics going at the same time, which made it a lot of fun to build. It was great to design as well.

Technical

It's built out using PHP, Flash, and Javascript. PHP to save time coding and to add dynamic elements, Flash to show that I do flash (in fact I teach it) and to demonstrate the web trend of using flash in HTML sites, and Javascript to demonstrate quick loading dynamic elements in web pages.

Breakdown

Design

The point of this design was to say that moverANDAshaker could take you where roads don't go. So for businesses, give them access to clients that they could never reach otherwise, for writers access to readers, and so on. That's why there's a green light even though there's not a road (and why the gas pump is old, like it's not necessary anymore).

PHP

There's not really a good place on this site to show where I used PHP. Basically it made the file size much smaller than it would have been and allowed me to generate document titles and layouts dynamically, but none of that really shows up much on the front end.

It's like me showing you the outside of a supercharged car if you don't know anything about engines. Showing under the hood wouldn't really do much.

Flash

The flash on this site is pretty basic and shows the current trend in web development. Because Flash sites don't get indexed as well as HTML, and HTML is moving towards being able to handle more dynamic elements anyway (HTML 5), purely Flash sites are rare. Now it's being used more for movies and simple aesthetic touches.

So that's what this is, a simple aesthetic touch. It has text fading in and out, with subtle lighting moving in the background and across the words too.

Javascript

If you want a dynamic website that loads fast, you'll need to use Javascript and AJAX. That's how Google gives you hints as you fill out a search and it's how I make the images pop up nice and pretty when you click on them. This site features some scripts that I've written. If you can find an effect that you like, I can plug it in to your site.
